چکیده

Isotopic composition of uranium has previously been used to infer the depositional redox environment ore concentrates and also provide a potential signature inform nuclear forensic investigations. This study evaluates diagnostic power U isotope by investigating (1) heterogeneity compositions in samples collected from same mine and/or vein, (2) influence processing on 238U/235U 234U/238U ratios. These characteristics are explored via high precision mass spectrometric measurement vein type predominantly mines located central Portugal Southwest England. Samples exhibit ?238U values ?0.16 +0.03 (±0.04) ‰ ?1.6 ?64.7 (±0.4) for ?234U (±2SD). variations can be attributed redox-driven fractionation processes redistribution during localised leaching re-precipitation. Analyses residues leachates small-scale batch experiments designed simulate industrial procedures reveal significant positive negative changes leachate relative bulk material (up 0.21 ± 0.06‰ 62.0 0.6‰ ?234U). findings highlight possibility significantly different concentrate even if manufacturing remain unchanged.

Investigation of sulphur isotope variation due to different processes applied during uranium ore concentrate production

The applicability and limitations of sulphur isotope ratio as a nuclear forensic signature have been studied. The typically applied leaching methods in uranium mining processes were simulated for five uranium ore samples and the n(34S)/n(32S) ratios were measured. The sulphur isotope ratio variation during uranium ore concentrate (UOC) production was also followed using two real-life sample set...

Laser isotope separation of uranium

A research effort was carried out at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, for developing laser-based techniques for enrichment of natural uranium to reactor-grade (2.5% to 3.0% U), with the potential to be economically scalable to industrial production. Three approaches – two molecular, namely CO2 laser-based approach and UF6-based approach, and one atomic, namely Atomic Vapour Las...

Biogenic non-crystalline U(IV) revealed as major component in uranium ore deposits

Historically, it is believed that crystalline uraninite, produced via the abiotic reduction of hexavalent uranium (U(VI)) is the dominant reduced U species formed in low-temperature uranium roll-front ore deposits. Here we show that non-crystalline U(IV) generated through biologically mediated U(VI) reduction is the predominant U(IV) species in an undisturbed U roll-front ore deposit in Wyoming...

Application of neodymium isotope ratio measurements for the origin assessment of uranium ore concentrates.

A novel procedure has been developed for the measurement of (143)Nd/(144)Nd isotope ratio in various uranium-bearing materials, such as uranium ores and ore concentrates (UOC) in order to evaluate the usefulness and applicability of variations of (143)Nd/(144)Nd isotope ratio for provenance assessment in nuclear forensics. Neodymium was separated and pre-concentrated by extraction chromatograph...
